PhD-Biotechnology (Rhodes University - South Africa) MBA (Leicester University, UK) Innovation management professional with more than 10 years of senior and executive-level management experience in biotechnology innovation and technology transfer management, facilitating technology, new product and/or intellectual property development and commercialisation. Passionate about technology innovation, entrepreneurship, technology & knowledge transfer and facilitating, supporting and promoting the development and effective transfer and commercialisation of technologies designed to create high socio-economic value and impact. Extensive experience in identifying, assessing, protecting and commercialisation of intellectual property emanating from research organisations and developing effective innovation strategies, project and programme plans for high socio-economic value and impact. Considerable work experience in investment project/programme management and portfolio management within life sciences and medical devices sectors. Worked within the South African National System of Innovation for over 10 years, contributed to the drafting and implementation of national innovation strategies and numerous Science, Technology and Innovation initiatives. Sat on the Boards of numerous biotechnology-based startup businesses in South Africa and appreciates the challenges faced by early stage companies, contributed to reviewing and refining business models and strategies of start-up companies.
